Trip Overview
Immerse yourself in the water wonders of France. Explore five cities of France famous for water: Paris, Dijon, Avignon, Uzès, and Nîmes. Walk under the Pont du Gard. Delve into the hydrogeological and literary history of the Fontaine de Vaucluse. Enjoy the culinary pleasures of Paris, Dijon, and the south of France. A representative of the French tour company will accompany the group, and Patricia Bobeck will be the scientific guide.
Trip Highlights
•Trace Henry Darcy’s water supply system and see the remaining fountains. Visit Place Darcy and the Porte Guillaume and Montmusard reservoirs.
•Travel to the Rosoir spring and trace the 12.7 km aqueduct that carried the water to Dijon.
•Visit the site of the Darcy’s Law experiments.
•Tour the Darcy sites in Paris including the Musée des Egouts.
•Visit the town of Uzes, the location of the spring the Romans diverted via aqueduct to Nimes.
•Walk under the Roman aqueduct at the Pont du Gard and see the famous fountain at the end of the aqueduct in Nimes.
•See the Fontaine de Vaucluse, the largest spring in France.
•Explore the historic city of Avignon and celebrate the last night of the tour at an outdoor banquet.

Trip Itinerary
Day 1. Arrive in Paris. Shuttle to hotel. Leisure time in afternoon. Dinner on your own. Overnight at
the Observatoire Luxembourg Hotel, near the Luxembourg garden.
Day 2. Paris. Breakfast at hotel. Morning sightseeing by coach: Chaillot Palace and Sewers
Museum. Free afternoon. Dinner at Brasserie Le Luco. Free evening.
Day 3. Paris. Breakfast at hotel. Optional tour of Paris by 2CV. Lunch on your own. Afternoon
coach to the Louvre.
Day 4. Paris. Breakfast at hotel. TGV to Dijon. Tour of Place Darcy, Porte Guillaume reservoir,
walking tour of Dijon. Bus ride to site of filtration experiments, Montmusard reservoir and
Darcy grave. Dinner in the old town, walk back to hotel past Darcy residence. Overnight at
Hotel du Nord.
Day 5. Dijon. Breakfast at hotel. Coach to Blaisy Haut to visit Blaisy Tunnel, then to Val Suzon to
see the Rosoir Spring and aqueduct. Lunch at Auberge St. Foy. Coach to the source of the
Seine River and Bourbilly Castle. Overnight at Hotel du Nord, Dijon.
Day 6. Dijon. Breakfast at hotel. TGV to Avignon. Coach to Pont du Gard, Uzès, and Nîmes.
Overnight at Cloitre San Louis in Avignon.
Day 7. Avignon. Coach trip to the Fontaine de Vaucluse. Lunch on an island in the Rhone.
Walking tour of Avignon. Farewell dinner in “Le Different” Restaurant. Overnight at
Cloître San Louis.
Day 8. Avignon. Depart for Paris via TGV.
